Colombo International Kite Festival 2026

The Colombo International Kite Festival 2026, officially known as the Derana-Signal Colombo International Kite Festival, is set to take place on August 8–9, 2026, at the iconic Galle Face Green in Colombo, Sri Lanka. This marks the sixth edition of Sri Lanka's internationally-recognized kite festival, organized by TV Derana. The event features 80 professional kite flyers from 30 countries and approximately 1,500 local kite enthusiasts, promising a vibrant display of kites in the Colombo skies.

The festival commences on Saturday, August 8, with a promotional vehicle parade starting at 9:00 AM. This parade, involving over 200 vehicles, will navigate through several major roads in Colombo, including Colpetty Junction, Liberty Roundabout, Bambalapitiya Junction, Horton Place, and Port City. An official opening ceremony is also held, welcoming the international teams, notably including members of Germany's No Limit Kite Team.

The main events unfold on Sunday, August 9, at Galle Face Green, featuring the full-scale kite festival and a musical concert. Competitions are held across eight categories, including creative designs, peacock-themed kites, and an under-15 category. A significant highlight of this year's festival is Sri Lanka's first-ever illuminated night kite display, complemented by food stalls and the musical performance. Due to the anticipated large public attendance, Sri Lanka Police have implemented extensive traffic and parking arrangements, deploying approximately 1,000 officers to ensure public safety and smooth traffic flow throughout the festival weekend.
