Aizen Festival

The Aizen Festival is a significant spiritual event dedicated to Aizen Myo-o, the Buddhist deity of love, harmony, and relationships. It is affectionately referred to as the 'Yukata Festival' because it historically marks the time when residents begin wearing light cotton kimonos for the summer. Visitors often visit the temple grounds during this period to offer prayers and purchase ema plaques for success in marriage and personal connections.

A major highlight is the Hoekago Parade held on June 30, where selected festival maidens known as Aizen Musume are carried through the streets in ornately decorated palanquins. This opening procession draws large crowds and serves as the festival's most vibrant public display. Inside the temple, the event offers a rare opportunity for the public to view sacred Buddhist treasures, including a statue of Aizen Myo-o that is typically hidden from view throughout the rest of the year.

Throughout the three-day celebration, the temple grounds host traditional music and dance performances alongside formal Buddhist ceremonies. The surrounding area is lined with temporary festival stalls selling classic Osaka street foods like takoyaki and yakisoba, as well as game booths, creating a lively atmosphere that captures the essence of a traditional Japanese summer festival.
