The Independence Day celebrations were taking place at Al Hasnain Public School in Madala village, under the Asmoli police station area of Sambhal, Uttar Pradesh, India. On August 15, 2026, an entrance canopy at the school suddenly collapsed during the function.

According to officials, local children had gathered to watch the Independence Day programme, with some reportedly climbing onto the structure and others standing below. The canopy, unable to bear the weight, gave way. An 8-year-old boy, identified as Nizamuddin, who was present to watch the event, was killed. Two students from the school, Saif Ali and Shaidana, sustained serious injuries and required referral to a higher medical center.

Following the incident, local residents initiated rescue efforts. District administration, including the District Magistrate and Superintendent of Police, visited the site to inspect the premises and met with the deceased child's family to assure assistance. An inquiry has been initiated into the circumstances of the collapse and the safety of the school premises.
