Skibbereen Arts Festival

The Skibbereen Arts Festival is set to feature a significant cultural event with the Irish debut of Sudanese singer, oud player, and composer Sulaf. Her performance, scheduled for Saturday, July 25, 2026, at 8pm, will take place at Skibbereen Town Hall, offering attendees a unique experience of her distinctive sound.

Sulaf's music is deeply rooted in traditional Sudanese folk traditions and ancient Nubian rhythms, an area known for its rich history and cultural significance. Her repertoire often explores themes of forced exile, longing, and divine love, influenced by her great-grandfather, a Sufi poet. She performs in Arabic, believing the music itself transcends language barriers to unite audiences.

The concert is expected to be a multifaceted artistic presentation, with Sulaf not only singing and playing the oud but also incorporating traditional dance from her village into her stage presence. Her musical journey has also seen collaborations with renowned Tuareg bands like Tinariwen and Imarhan, further enriching her unique blend of musical styles.
