The original Summer School, held from August 23 to 28, 1926, at Owain Glyndŵr’s Parliament House in Machynlleth, was a significant gathering for nationalists, campaigners, thinkers, and activists. It played a crucial role in shaping the vision of the national movement in Wales during its formative years, just months after the party's foundation. Approximately 60 members attended the week-long series of lectures and discussions.
For the centenary celebration, Professor Richard Wyn Jones, a leading scholar of Welsh politics and nationalism, will deliver the keynote lecture. His address will echo the theme of Saunders Lewis's renowned speech, "Principles of Nationalism," given at the first Summer School, which laid the intellectual groundwork for Plaid Cymru's development. The event will be chaired by Dafydd Wigley, with additional contributions from Dafydd Iwan and Delyth Jewell MS. Tickets can be purchased in advance or at the Tabernacl on the night of the event.
