Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, the official stage sequel to J.K. Rowling’s book series, is entering a new chapter in its London residency. Since its debut in 2016, the play has been a massive success at the Palace Theatre, attracting over 2.5 million viewers and winning numerous accolades, including nine Laurence Olivier Awards and six Tony Awards. Written by Jack Thorne and directed by John Tiffany, the story follows the next generation of wizards 19 years after the events of the final Harry Potter novel.

The production is transitioning from its original two-part format into a streamlined, single-part show. The final performances of the original two-part version are scheduled to conclude on September 20, 2026. Following a brief hiatus for the transformation, the new version will officially open to the public on Friday, October 9, 2026. This move aligns the London production with other international versions of the show that have already adopted the condensed format.

The reimagined show is designed to be experienced in one sitting, with a total runtime of 2 hours and 55 minutes, including one interval. This change marks the first major update to the London staging since it premiered ten years ago, aiming to make the magical experience more accessible to audiences while maintaining the core narrative and spectacular effects.
