Ghana Party in the Park

Ghana Party in the Park is recognized as the largest Ghanaian cultural event outside of Ghana, having taken place annually since 2005. Held at Copthall Playing Fields in Barnet, North London, the festival typically draws thousands of visitors to celebrate Ghanaian music, food, and arts. The 2026 edition was also marketed as Shattafest UK, featuring a headlining performance by the prominent Ghanaian Reggae-Dancehall artist Shatta Wale.

The 2026 festival was halted following a safety incident that began around 18:00 BST. A small fire near the main entrance gates forced a temporary closure of the site. While the London Fire Brigade addressed the blaze, a large crowd of arriving attendees accumulated outside. When the gates were reopened, a massive crowd surge occurred at the security checkpoints, leading to several people being crushed and injured.

Emergency responders, including the Metropolitan Police and London’s Air Ambulance, provided medical aid to 23 people at the scene. Three individuals were transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Following the surge, organizers and authorities ended the festival early on health and safety grounds. Official statements later debunked online rumors suggesting that stabbings or fatalities had occurred during the incident.
