19th Angoulême Francophone Film Festival

The 19th Angoulême Francophone Film Festival (Festival du Film Francophone d’Angoulême) takes place in Angoulême, France, from August 24 to 29, 2026. This iteration highlights Cambodia as the "Country of Honour," a distinction reflecting the long-standing cultural and historical bonds between Cambodia and the French-speaking world. The festival provides an international platform for Khmer cinema just months before Cambodia hosts the 20th Francophonie Summit in Phnom Penh.

A central feature of the program is the screening of nine Cambodian films, presented out of competition. These selections span four decades, illustrating the evolution of the country’s film industry and its cultural revival. A special tribute is paid to the late King-Father Norodom Sihanouk, recognized as both a filmmaker and a founding figure of the Francophonie. Her Royal Highness Princess Norodom Arunrasmy attended as the royal representative to honor this legacy and promote the Kingdom's artistic heritage.

In addition to film screenings, the festival facilitates decentralized cooperation between the two nations. During the 2026 edition, the Governor of Kampong Thom Province and the Mayor of Angoulême signed a partnership agreement to encourage exchange in heritage conservation and creative industries. The event also served as an opportunity to promote contemporary Cambodian infrastructure and tourism, including the new Techo International Airport.
