The 2026 edition of the Paris Pride March was suspended on the eve of its scheduled June 27 date as Western Europe faced record-breaking temperatures. Public safety officials, including the Paris Secretary of Public Safety, Patrice Faure, urged the cancellation of large-scale outdoor events to prevent medical emergencies such as hyperthermia and dehydration. Authorities warned that failure to comply would result in a formal ban by decree, noting that emergency services were already stretched to capacity.

The decision followed a week of exceptional heat, with temperatures across France reaching levels comparable to the deadly 2003 heatwave. Other major regional events, such as the Solidays music festival at the Longchamp racecourse, were also cancelled under similar pressure from the local prefecture. To mitigate health risks, the Ministry of the Interior also recommended restrictions on public alcohol consumption during the peak heat period.

While the June event was called off, organizers from the Inter-LGBT NGO have indicated a desire to reschedule the march for September 2026. This postponement allows for logistical coordination while ensuring participant safety during more temperate weather. The Paris Pride March remains one of France's largest public gatherings, having drawn between 500,000 and one million participants in recent years.
