Salsa on St. Clair

Salsa on St. Clair is a prominent cultural celebration held along St. Clair Avenue West in Toronto. Often described as the largest Latin street festival in Canada, it features a wide array of activities including live salsa music, professional dance performances, and diverse culinary offerings. The 2026 festival marked the 22nd anniversary of the event and was scheduled to run on July 11 and 12. On the first night of the festivities, the celebration was halted due to a violent exchange of gunfire near the intersection of St. Clair Avenue West and Arlington Avenue. At the time of the incident, an estimated 13,000 people were attending the street party.

Local authorities reported that the shooting resulted in two fatalities and several injuries, leading to a massive police response and the establishment of multiple crime scenes. Despite the tragedy, community leaders and officials emphasized the festival's role as a space for joy and belonging, advocating for continued safety at major cultural gatherings.
