Creefest

Creefest is a significant cultural gathering dedicated to celebrating the music, traditions, and heritage of the Cree people. Traditionally hosted by different communities within the Mushkegowuk Council region, the 2026 edition marks the first time the festival has been held in the city of Timmins. The event officially commenced at the McIntyre Arena with an opening ceremony featuring local leadership, including the Mayor of Timmins and the Mushkegowuk Council Grand Chief.

The festival provides a vital platform for Cree artists and cultural practitioners to share their work. Organized with a focus on building community trust and relationships, the event features a lineup of musicians and cultural liaison efforts to support Indigenous performers. Previous iterations of the traveling festival have been hosted in Moose Factory, Cochrane, and Chapleau, highlighting its role as a rotating regional anchor for First Nations culture and music.
