The Quiet Within

“The Quiet Within” is a solo exhibition featuring the photographic works of Bangladeshi cinematographer and artist Rashed Zaman. Organized by Bengal Foundation and inaugurated at Bengal Shilpalay in Dhaka, this exhibition runs from August 13 to August 27, 2026. Zaman, who initially aspired to be a painter, architect, and photographer, leverages his cinematography background to create images that blur the lines between painting and photography, offering a distinctive visual experience.

The exhibition's content reflects Zaman's quest for calm and quiet, often seeking solace in nature away from the bustling city of Dhaka. His photographs are characterized by a minimalistic use of subjects and colors, frequently appearing monochromatic or with a limited palette to convey maximum depth. Key elements include the capture of gentle light, ephemeral moments between dusk and dawn, and serene landscapes featuring buffalos and waterbodies, some depicted still and others capturing motion blur.

Speakers at the inauguration, including Dr. Rüdiger Lotz, German Ambassador to Bangladesh, praised Zaman's ability to evoke mystique, spirituality, and a sense of contemplation through his work. The collection highlights themes such as vastness, stillness, solitude, isolation, and tranquility, showcasing nature through unique angles and aerial views, prompting viewers to consider the intersection of sky and earth.
