Blackville Public School 150th Anniversary Celebration

The anniversary festivities featured an official ceremony with a keynote address by 96-year-old former principal Bill Dawson, who led the school from 1956 to 1963. Current principal Kylie Burns highlighted the event as a reflection of the enduring community connections that have shaped Blackville across generations. The celebration served as a reunion for many of the original families who have maintained a presence in the district for over a century.

A central activity of the day was a local history tour that allowed participants to visit the original schoolroom buildings. These structures, which served as the school's primary facilities until 1991, were relocated to a nearby property and converted into a residence. The tour provided a unique opportunity for former students to walk through their old classrooms and reminisce about the school's early years at Black Creek.

In addition to the ceremony and tours, the organizing committee launched a commemorative book titled "Today's Cooking with Yesterday's Memories." This 150th-anniversary publication functions as both a historical record and a community cookbook, featuring over 200 recipes and personal anecdotes shared by past and present students, staff, and residents. The project took approximately six months to compile and documents the unique experiences of the small school community.
