The Burdekin Water Festival Street Party transforms the heart of Ayr into a vibrant festive precinct to conclude months of community fundraising and ambassador activities. The 2026 event is centered on the theme 'River Country, Burdekin Style,' celebrating the region’s water resources, local industries, and lifestyle. The program typically begins in the late afternoon with a grand parade featuring decorated floats from local schools, businesses, and community organizations.

Following the parade, the street party offers a wide array of activities including market stalls, sideshow attractions, and various food vendors. A major highlight for the 2026 celebration is the Burdekin debut of the Brisbane-based entertainment group GEED UP, which delivers a high-energy performance blending powerhouse vocals, breakdancing, and comedy. The evening also includes the official crowning of the festival’s Senior and Junior Ambassadors and the announcement of winners for the garden, photography, and float competitions.

As one of the Burdekin Shire's largest annual gatherings, the event requires extensive road closures throughout the Ayr town center.
