SA Junior Heifer Expo

The SA Junior Heifer Expo is a premier youth agricultural event held annually at the showgrounds in South Australia. Celebrating its 41st year in 2026, the expo provides a platform for young people interested in the beef industry to showcase their talents and learn from experienced professionals. It attracts participants ranging from young children to young adults in their early twenties.

Over the course of the event, competitors are judged on a diverse array of skills including parading, junior cattle judging, clipping, meat judging, and marketing. Participants are also evaluated on their attitude, cooperation, and performance in interviews. The competition culminates in prestigious awards, most notably the Senior Champion Herdsperson, which often includes scholarships to support further education and travel within the agricultural sector.

The expo is regarded as a significant community event that fosters long-term industry connections. Many participants have a multi-generational history with the competition, which is widely considered one of the most important annual gatherings for the state's livestock industry.
