The first African Festival of University Theatre is being held from 13 to 20 July 2026 at the Mahieddine Bachtarzi National Theatre in Algiers. Under the theme “Africa meets on the university stage”, it gathers university institutions, students and delegations from 16 African countries.

The programme includes theatrical productions inside and outside the official competition, street theatre and a continent-wide competition for the best theatrical script. An international forum organised by the University of Algiers 2 examines African theatrical practice, stage experiences and academic development.
